A Reddit user once shared the heartbreaking story of their first dog, a beautiful Siberian Husky named Krog. They had paid about $2,000 for him, hoping the energetic pup would motivate them to live a healthier life. Huskies are known for their strength and love for outdoor adventures, and the owner dreamed of years spent walking, running, bikejoring, and skiing together. Krog was supposed to be more than just a pet — he was meant to be a companion who would help bring purpose and activity back into his owner’s life.
But when Krog was around six months old, he began having seizures. At first, medication called phenobarbital helped control them, and for a while he seemed like a completely normal dog who just needed daily treatment. Sadly, the seizures eventually returned and became more frequent. The owner and veterinarians tried multiple treatments including potassium bromide, Keppra, and other medications, but nothing managed to control the epilepsy. Despite all the efforts, Krog’s condition continued to worsen.
One night the seizures changed dramatically — Krog began running uncontrollably into walls and furniture, something he had never done before. It was clear his quality of life was declining, and his owner had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go peacefully. Even though Krog lived only about a year and a half, he left a powerful impact on everyone who met him. The owner still remembers the one time they managed to take him bikejoring — the activity they had dreamed of sharing for many years — and how happy he was in that moment. Sometimes the shortest lives leave the deepest pawprints on our hearts.
